Below you’ll find some of the most commonly asked questions about our Belly Dance Classes.
We dance in any form of workout-gear , yoga style clothing works best. Nothing too loose, we want to see the movement of your body. Feel free to wear a crop-top if you feel comfortable. And if you have a hip scarf (coin/shimmy belt) bring that for sure! If not, you can wrap anything around those hips to accentuate them! Get creative!
We either dance barefoot or in socks.
A bottle of water & a sweat towel is all you will need.
Our Menlyn Studio: Menlyn (60 Glenwood Road, Lynnwood Glen)
Our classes are all 60 minutes.
Membership is based on a month-to-month payment of set fees for your weekly classes. We require 30 days written notice emailed to info@bellyacademy.co.za to terminate.
Yes, this is possible. Please enquire for drop-in rates.
Yes, we have monthly socials that range from exciting outings to meeting up for a meal. We have a few HAFLAS each year (Belly Dance Socials) and we also have our annual showcase at the Atterbury Theatre each year.
For sure, you can choose to perform at the Haflas or in the showcase.
Unlike a lot of dance classes, there isn’t an age cap on starting a Belly Dance class. Some instructors will take in children as well as senior citizens.
Please, check with your OB/GYN first before starting a Belly Dance class. With physician approval, there shouldn’t be any reason why you couldn’t take a Belly Dance class as part of a pre-natal fitness program.
If you do start (or continue!) dancing, DO take it easy while you enjoy the benefit of a good abdominal workout and always listen to your body!
At this point we are not accepting male students.
We would love to have a separate room with a hired caretaker and the appropriate insurance so you could bring your child(ren). However, as we don’t have either, we refer to the above: No men & no observers are allowed in the studio during a session. If you are interested in such an arrangement, you could opt to register both yourself & your daughter for our classes.
Sure thing. This is done by booking a trial class. So, get in touch!
This is a very personal choice, and you will have the option to but you can do so, only if you feel comfortable and up to it.
