Lana Wood, originally from Taiwan, started her oriental belly dance journey with Ioanna Piagalis in 2016, and tribal fusion belly dance with Eolande Steenkamp in 2018. Under their expert guidance, Lana has blossomed, picking up essential muscle control techniques, while being immersed in the rhythm, musicality, and rich culture of this oriental art form. Lana is passionate about Baladi, Golden Era, and Tribal Fusion belly dance styles.
Lana also has over a decade of classical piano training, which she started at the age of three, and still plays to this day. Her musical ear and formal training has been an invaluable tool which she brings to her dancing, to her music selections and song editing, and to the way in which she interprets and expresses music in dance. Before belly dance, Lana received training overseas in Odissi (one of the eight classical Indian dance forms; from Eastern India), and also Bollywood for four years. She also received training, locally, in Bharatanatyam (another of the eight classical Indian dance forms; from Southern India) for two years. This training is ongoing.
One of Lana’s greatest strengths is her curiosity and her never-ending desire to learn new things and take on new challenges. As an example, she has even started Muay Thai (Thai martial art), something that improves stamina, strength and balance, and therefore improves her dancing. Although she did not start dancing from a young age, she leverages her many-varied experiences, diverse influences, and all the things she has learnt and continues to learn in a way that they all come together in a rich and rewarding recipe for success. She can’t wait to bring the enthusiasm to learn to a new group of ladies.
